A pedestrian was fatally struck at the corner of Highway 97 and 15th Avenue this morning.
Prince George RCMP Cpl. Craig Douglass said the man was killed when hit by a fully-loaded tractor trailer unit carrying chips.
Covered by a tarp, the body was lying several metres south of a crosswalk although Douglass declined to say whether the person was jaywalking.
"It's far too soon to be able tell those details," Douglass said. "Certainly, that will be something our reconstructionists will look at in terms of measurements and whatever evidence they can find at the scene in terms of point of first contact."
A stretch of Highway 97 just south of 15th was closed to traffic for about four hours as police, who were called to the scene at about 10:10 a.m., conducted the investigation.
Investigators from the B.C. Coroners Service, WorkSafeBC and the B.C. Commercial Vehicle Safety Enforcemment branch were also called to the scene.
The victim's identity has not yet been released.
