A contract has been awarded to resurface a stretch of Highway 16 West.
Kamloops-based Green Roads Recycling Ltd. was awarded a $5.2-million contract for a 42.5-kilometre stretch from Endako to the Tintagle rest area east of Burns Lake, the provincial Ministry of Transportation said Tuesday.
The project will use hot, in-place recycling, which uses less gravel to make the asphalt and should provide a smoother ride and reduce maintenance costs. Work is expected to be complete by mid-October.
The stretch was last paved about 20 years ago and the running surface has reached the end of its service life, the ministry said.
The ministry also issued a tender for a 3.8-kilometre passing lane on Highway 27 about 20 kilometres south of Fort St. James.
The new southbound lane will be constructed on the west side of the highway starting just to the north of Cook Road
The tender closes Aug. 30 and work is expected to start in late September. The project is expected to be completed by the end of August 2013.
