Aspiring paramedics will be able to receive training in Prince George in 2014 after the provincial government announced funding Thursday for education in rural communities.
Prince George and Cranbrook were selected to host courses provided by the Justice Institute of British Columbia beginning in February 2014. In each community a cohort of 15 students will be selected to take the primary paramedic training program.
"Providing training closer to home supports our targeted recruitment efforts underway in many
rural and remote areas of the province and helps many paramedics reach their career goals," B.C. Emergency Health Services president Michael MacDougall said in a news release.
This is the third consecutive year Prince George has been selected to host the training and it is the only rural or northern community in the province over that time period to host more than one course.
The government is spending $250,000 to put on the courses next year in Prince George and Cranbrook.
