The B.C. Ministry of Health reported six new COVID-related deaths in the Northern Health region over the weekend.
The deaths bring the region’s death toll from the pandemic up to 313. The Ministry of Health also reported 110 new cases of COVID-19 in the Northern Health region from Saturday to Monday.
As of Monday, there were 47 people hospitalized with COVID-19 in the Northern Health region, including 12 in critical care, according to data reported by the B.C. Centre for Disease Control. That’s down by 19 from Friday, when 66 people were hospitalized, including 15 in critical care.
The B.C. CDC no longer reports the number of active COVID-19 cases, but there have been a total of 28,469 cases in the Northern Health region since the start of the pandemic.
Roughly 90.6 per cent of eligible British Columbians (aged five and older) have received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine and 86.3 per cent have received their second dose. In addition, 55.7 per cent of British Columbians aged 12 and older have received a booster dose.
In the Prince George local health area, 80 per cent of people aged five and older were fully vaccinated as of Feb. 24.
Nearly 11.34 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in B.C., including 519,074 in the Northern Health region.
Those not fully vaccinated make up 13.7 per cent of the population aged five and older, but accounted for 20.7 per cent of new cases in B.C. between Feb. 18 to Feb. 24. In addition, those not fully vaccinated made up 32.9 per cent of people hospitalized with COVID-19 between Feb. 11 and Feb. 24, the B.C. Ministry of Health reported.
