Pandemic claims a life in Northern Health

Toll now stands at 285 while 227 new cases were reported

The COVID-19 pandemic has claimed another life, according to the B.C. Centre for Disease Control.

The toll for the region now stands at 285 since the pandemic was declared, according to numbers issued Thursday.

As well, 227 new cases were reported, helping to push the number of active cases up to 1,153 or 49 more than the day before.

Thirty-four people were in hospital with the disease, up three, while the number in critical care held steady at 12.

Since the start of the pandemic, there have been 25,422 cases of COVID-19 in the Northern Health region.

As of Wednesday, 503,487 doses of COVID-19 vaccine had been administered in the Northern Health region.

Adjusted for age, over two weeks ending February 1, there were 160.1 hospitalizations with COVID per 100,000 people in B.C.

Unvaccinated people accounted for 87.5, partially vaccinated for 53.4 and full vaccinated for 19.2, according to figures from the Ministry of Health.
