Year-to-date starts on single-family homes are languishing in Prince George compared to the same period last year.

Work began on just five houses over the first quarter of 2011, compared to 18 by the end of March 2010, according to Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation numbers released Friday.

That has been offset somewhat by a start on the 36-unit seniors apartment complex next to the Commonwealth Health Centre in downtown Prince George.
