A distraught Prince George man shut down roads near the Parkwood Mall for three hours Sunday afternoon.

Prince George RCMP and Prince George Fire Rescue cordoned off the area surrounding the 15th Avenue and Winnipeg Street overpass around 12:15 p.m. after receiving calls about a man on the wrong side of the overpass railing.

The 39-year-old Prince George man was visibly upset and could be heard yelling at both the attending RCMP members and the woman brought up to the overpass to help talk him down two hours into the ordeal.

After nearly three hours of negotiation, the man was convinced to walk to safety and was escorted to the neighbouring University Hospital of Northern B.C. for medical attention.
