Nearly 2,000 B.C. Hydro customers in the Prince George area were without power for at least part of Thursday due to heavy, wet snow collecting on trees and forcing branches on to power lines.
That majority of the approximately 1,900 customers impacted were in the Chief Lake Road, Ness Lake and Nukko Lake areas.
"There are many trees on lines in that area," Hydro spokesman Bob Gammer said.
Other regions in and around Prince George without power included some areas of the Hart within city limits and the Summit Lake area.
Gammer said crews expected to have much of the power restored by Thursday evening, but some homes could be without power until noon on Friday - especially those in the Upper Fraser and Willow River areas.
"These are hard-to-reach locations and we've lost our daylight now," Gammer said late Thursday afternoon.
Additional crews have been mobilized to help get the power back as soon as possible. In addition to line crews, Hydro is also deploying its vegetation crews to help clear the trees away and speed up the process for restoring electricity.
The snow and rain combination caused power outages throughout the north, including areas around Williams Lake, Quesnel, Burns Lake and Smithers.
"It's quite a wide effect, this heavy, wet snow and the storm that's brought it in," Gammer said.
