Operation Red Nose volunteers will be out on the road tonight and Saturday night.
It will be the first of two of nine nights when they will be acting as designated drivers for holiday season revelers.
"We'll have between 12-15 Operation Red Nose teams out and about, showing their colours in their red vests and handing out information about our service at pubs, restaurants and parties," said ORN spokeswoman Andrea Johnson.
Partiers not sure they're in shape to drive their own vehicle home can call 250-962-RIDE (7433) between 9 p.m. - 3 a.m. A team of three will come and pick the caller up.
"When clients call us, they'll have to provide their name, where we're picking them up, where we're dropping them off, the number of passengers, and the type of vehicle they have. That information helps us locate them especially if they are at a large party."
While it is too late to volunteer this weekend, there is still time to help out during the holiday season. So far, 209 volunteers have signed up and the goal is 350 to meet the expected demand, especially on New Year's Eve.
To be eligible, volunteers must be 19 years old, have a valid driver's license and fill out the required criminal record check forms that are included in the application, which can be found at www.ornpg.ca. Print off the application form, fill it out and and drop it off at the community policing office at Fifth and Brunswick.
For more information, call volunteer co-ordinator Karen at 250-961-6465.
The service will also run during the nights of Dec. 6, 7, 13, 14, 20, 21, and New Year's Eve.
