The first weekend of the 2014 season for Operation Red Nose wasn't as busy as years past, but the volunteers still gave more than 100 safe rides home.
On Friday night, 16 teams gave 46 rides and on Saturday night, 13 teams gave 67 rides, for a total of 113 trips spanning 3,507 kilometres.
The opening weekend in 2013 saw volunteers criss-crossing the city on 131 trips.
It took 114 volunteers to help keep the streets safe for Prince George party-goers over the frosty opening weekend.
Operation Red Nose is a free, seasonal service organized by the Nechako Rotary Club of Prince George in partnership with the RCMP and ICBC that helps those who've had too much to get behind the wheel get themselves and their vehicle home. It will be in service Dec. 5 and 6, Dec. 12 and 13, Dec. 19 and 20 and New Year's Eve. For a ride on those nights, call ORN at 250-962-RIDE (7433) between 9 p.m. and 3 a.m.
And though the season has begun, Operation Red Nose is still looking for volunteers.
Last year, 258 volunteers provided 1,008 safe rides home in nine nights, which ranked Prince George third overall out of 13 communities in B.C.
