Open houses set for gold mining project

The New Gold mining company will be hosting four open houses for its proposed Blackwater project in four area communities next week. The first will be on Monday, Oct. 22 in Fort St. James at the Music Makers Hall, 255 West 2nd Ave. On Tuesday, Oct.

The New Gold mining company will be hosting four open houses for its proposed Blackwater project in four area communities next week.

The first will be on Monday, Oct. 22 in Fort St. James at the Music Makers Hall, 255 West 2nd Ave.

On Tuesday, Oct. 23, company representatives will be in Vanderhoof at the Friendship Centre, 219 Victoria St. E.

On Wednesday, Oct. 24, they'll be in in Burns Lake at the Heritage Centre, 540 Hwy. 16.

And on Thursday, Oct. 25, they'll be in Fraser Lake at the Legion, 165 Chowsunket St.

All of the meetings run from 6 to 8:30 p.m.

New Gold is seeking to establish a gold and silver mine at Mount Davidson, 110 kilometres southwest of Vanderhoof.

The project remains subject to a federal and provincial environmental review but is currently in the advanced exploration phase with construction forecast to begin in 2015 and production in 2017.
