No matter how minor, a crime is always worth reporting.
That's the message from the Prince George RCMP after seeing just 42 reports filed through the detachment's online crime reporting service in the six months it has been up and running.
Not reporting thefts, for example, only boosts thieves confidence they will not be caught, according to police.
"We analyze reported crime to determine where and how we deploy resources," Cpl. Craig Douglass said. "The more crime is reported, the more accurate we can be with targeting crime trends and those responsible."
The service can be found by going to princegeorge.rcmp-grc.gc.ca and clicking on online crime reporting on the main page.
It can be used to reports losses, thefts and property damage worth less than $5,000 or to report a driving complaint that is not in progress.
It typically takes about 15 minutes and saves a trip to the detachment to make the report while also saving staff the time it takes to help fill out a report.
