One person is confirmed dead in a two-vehicle crash near Quesnel. Three others were involved - two per vehicle - but they all appeared to have non-life-threatening injuries, according to officials on the scene.

The collision happened Friday morning at about 9:15 a.m. between two pickups on Highway 97. The incident took place at Norn Road near the Ten Mile Lake turnoff a few minutes north of Quesnel.

"There was a tow-truck working in that area on an unrelated issue," said RCMP spokeswoman Cpl. Madonna Saunderson. "Southbound traffic had come to a complete stop waiting for the tow-truck to complete its work. One of those waiting vehicles pulled out into the northbound lane and attempted to go around the lineup. It went into the path of the oncoming pickup."

According to police, the passenger in the southbound pickup is the one confirmed to be deceased.

"The full list of causal factors is still being determined," said Saunderson.

The three survivors were taken to GR Baker Hospital in Quesnel.
