Prince George's second annual Trashion Show, which reimagines trash into fashion, will be happening online this year.
The Two Rivers Gallery event celebrates creativity through redesigning and creating wearable art from materials destined for the landfill or recycling depots.
The inaugural show was held in Spring 2019, with more than 100 audience members and 18 artists.
It saw waste re-imagined into beautiful pieces of art worn by models, who sashayed to rhythmic music down the runway as audience members grabbed drinks, pursued silent auction items and voted for their favourite artist.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the associated health concerns, Trashion Show 2020 is going to go digital.
The gallery currently has a call out for artists who want to be involved in the online version with the application deadline set for Aug. 15, but don’t worry, the trash creation does not need to be completed by that time.
On Sept. 19, the gallery will launch an online Trashion Show Showcase of past and present artists through the Two Rivers Gallery Facebook page.
Then on Sept. 26, the gallery will have a live question-and-answer segment with select participants.
While there are no prizes this time around, outfits made for the online wearable-art showcase will be eligible for submission for future Trashion Show events.
Creativity is also a reward by its very nature.
