The Reel Youth filmmaking project is going online this year, and are teaming up with the Connaught Youth Centre to help Prince George kids connect with each other and make films in response to this important time in history.
The “I am Prince George” online film program will see participants aged 10 to 14 create their own short film that captures personal stories and experiences about living through the COVID-19 pandemic.
The participants will have help from Reel Youth facilitators who will lead them through creative writing and filmmaking activities. No experience is necessary for a participant to join this program, but they will need access to a smartphone or video camera, and a laptop or computer. All participants will be provided with a licence for Adobe Rush for editing.
The strongest films will be distributed through Reel Youth and Connaught Youth Centre’s online media channels and Telus Video-on-Demand streaming services.
The program consists of six online 90-minute sessions over Zoom, where participants will be introduced to the principles of filmmaking and practice media production skills by shooting and editing an original video from home.
There are limited spots, so participants will have to commit to attending all of the program sessions which occur from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. on May 25, 28, June 1, 5, 8, 12.
Anyone between the ages of 10 to 14 in the Prince George area can apply for the program online.
