The annual Parkinson SuperWalk, which raises funds to make a difference in the lives of the 13,000 British Columbians living with the disease, is going to look a little different this year.

Due to COVID-19 and its associated precautionary measures being implemented by health authorities, the charity is unable to host any large-scale in-person events for Parkinson's SuperWalk this September.

Instead, registrants will be invited to participate in monthly exercise and fundraising challenges, with SuperWalk weekend earmarked for Sept. 12 and 13.

The opening ceremonies being live-streamed the Saturday (Sept. 12) at 10 a.m.

Rather than attend a large event, you’re encouraged to tune into the opening ceremonies and then participate in SuperWalk weekend at an outdoor location in your community.

Some of the local spots the charity suggests for Prince George include Lheidli T'enneh Memorial Park or Connaught Hill Park, as well as nearby trails, neighbourhood streets and roads, a community track, or even just front and backyards.

Parkinson SuperWalk is accepting donations until Dec. 31, 2020.

The charity says support is needed now more than ever to ensure the society can continue to empower people affected by Parkinson’s disease with programs, services, educational resources and advocacy.

You can register and find out more info at the Parkinson's SuperWalk website.
