Every summer, Two Rivers Gallery invites young kids to experience all forms of art with interactive and fun activities.
However, as COVID-19 continues across B.C., 2020 will look a little bit different with the hope of turning some heads thanks to a local artist.
KidzArt Dayz is switching to a community-based approach with an outdoor exhibition at Books and Company, known as “Art in the Park(ing lot)” and is scheduled for this B.C. Day long weekend.
Indigenous artist James Darin Corbière (Waab Shki Makwa) will be sharing his collection with Prince George kids and youth, specifically focused on a healing journey from church-related childhood trauma.
With the use of vibrant colours and the natural grain of ash wood, Two Rivers Gallery says Darin, originally from Ontario, is able to engage with viewers of all ages.
“He used to see colours around people as a child,” reads the Gallery’s event posting.
“That ability ended when the abuse began, and when he decided to exorcise the demons left by the Church, the colours began to return and are expressed in his artwork.”
Darin’s work will be set up in Books and Company’s loading zone, which is located at 1685 3 Ave.
KidzArt Dayz in the Community is scheduled to take place Saturday, Aug. 1, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
