On Our Radar: Prince George Classics band taking a walk through Hank Williams’ musical journey

Life story of ‘The King of Country Music’ will be shared at Art Space

One of the biggest success stories in music history could also be described as one of the saddest.

The legendary legacy of Hank Williams is what a local Prince George band hopes to bring into the spotlight this month in a tribute show, walking through the (short) life of the American music legend.

The Classics have put together a set-list of Williams’ biggest hits like Move it on Over, Your Cheatin’ Heart, I Saw the Light and Hey Good Lookin' for residents wishing to attend.

The group will also walk through the moments in Williams’ history both on and off the early 20th-century music stage, leading to his death by overdose at 29 years old.

Williams rocked the 1940s and 1950s, earning him the unofficial status as ‘The King of Country Music.’

He influenced many great artists since his passing in 1953, including Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan and The Rolling Stones, all of which have also performed covers of his songs.

Williams was posthumously inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1961, the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1970 and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987.

You can catch The Classics’ Hank Williams Show on Saturday, Dec. 14 at The Art Space, located above Books and Company (222-1685 3rd Ave.).

The band will be joined by special guests Roy Clark, Chet Atkins, Duane Eddy, and The Ventures.

The musical journey starts at 8 p.m., with doors opening at 7 p.m., and the event is by donation.
