Who has a collection of souvenir shot glasses?
How about an endless supply of Christmas ornaments?
Is your loved one running out of vases to put those new flowers in every time you drop by?
If you answered ‘yes’ to any of the above questions, or you’re simply open to learning a unique art form fairly new to North America, then this upcoming demonstration next month may be something to mark on your calendar.
Glass House Xperience is travelling across western Canada teaching local residents how to create objects by bubbling molten glass, known as the art of glassblowing, and giving them a chance to earn new hands-on skills.
This is the second year in a row the mobile studio will make a two-week stop in Prince George, setting up shop at Nukko Lake from Sept. 2 to 16.
The Calgary company claims they are the only mobile glass studio in all of Canada as most other studios are done in a ‘brick-and-mortar building’, calling the process rewarding for those who use its healing with ashes program.
“We’ve all lost someone close to us,” explains Owner and Organizer Mandy Patchin in a release. “And so we can relate to what our clients are going through, and to be a part however small in the healing process? That’s where our heart is.”
She says last August, Prince George residents had positive feedback for the program.
This time around, Glass House Xperience will offer a two-hour class for students to piece together something ‘useful, beautiful, and personal’ and a separate class for kids ages seven and older.
More information can be found on the organization’s website.
