If you are worried about the state of the environment and want to take action, why not start local and help clean up your community?
REAPS (Recycling and Environmental Action Planning Society) along with the City of Prince George are hosting a city-wide spring cleanup day.
It takes place on Sunday, April 28 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and you can register to help out as an individual or group that could be a group of family, co-workers, friends, or just like-minded people.
Bang and gloves will be provided if you complete the sign-up form; your group can also select a designated clean-up location.
There’s even an interactive map that shows you directions to the nearest temporary locations form litter and garbage drop off bins during the annual spring cleanup day.
So why should you sign up to help?
Well, REAPS has a variety of convincing points: Litter is an eyesore, it can pose health and safety risks especially to kids who might pick it up, decreases property values, and is a burden for commerce and tourism.
It also often makes its way into storm drains where it can cause clogs and then floods, and litter that passes through storm drains makes it ways into rivers and streams. Local wildlife also can confuse litter for food or nesting materials.
So if you've got the time to spare, why not help improve the local environment?
