There’s no end to the mountain biking season if you have the right tires and the right kind of attitude.

Fat bikes, or bikes with oversized tires designed for riding off-road, particularly on soft terrain like sand or snow, have become an essential part of the mountain biking experiences here in the north.

To celebrate all things fat bike, the Prince George Cycling Club (PGCC) is hosting the 2019 Fat Bike Festival.

The event takes place this weekend, starting Saturday, Feb. 23, with a noon poker ride, followed by a social at 3:30 p.m. (there are even some prizes up for grabs). The following day (Sunday, Feb, 24), there will be a race for either one or two laps around a five- to eight-km course.

The course will be at the UNBC single track trails (You’ll start on the greenway then follow Doctors Trail, Tyner, Bears, Backside, Sawmill Road, Carters, then left on Bears, Freds, Swampy, and finish on an unnamed snowshoe trail).

It’s $20 for the whole weekend, plus your PGCC membership (Cycling B.C. licence holders will save $10).

You can get your PGCC memberships online or at Koops, Cycle Logic or Ruckus prior to the event (or just bring your membership fees to the event).

It’s $25 for an adult annual membership and $10 for anyone under 19 years old.
