Get ready for a fun night out because UNBC’s Musical Productions Club rendition of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels is set to premiere.
You might remember Dirty Rotten Scoundrels from the 1988 slap-stick comedy starring Michael Caine and Steve Martin, which follows the story of two men who con their way through a series of beautiful women on the French Rivera.
The musical production version of the story promises catchy songs, farcical humor, and a plot twist that will leave you saying "Sacré Bleu!"
If you haven’t seen the original comedy, here’s what you are in for according to the club’s synopsis:
Lawrence Jameson makes his lavish living by talking rich ladies out of their money while Freddy Benson more humbly swindles women by waking their compassion with fabricated stories about his grandmother's failing health.
After meeting on a train, they attempt to work together only to find that the small French town isn't big enough for the two of them.
They agree on a settlement: the first one to extract $50,000 from a young female target, heiress Christine Colgate wins, and the other must leave town.
A hilarious battle of cons ensues that will keep audiences laughing, humming and guessing to the end.
The musical version of the film was written in 2004 with music and lyrics by David Yazbek and a book by Jeffrey Lane.
Tickets for the show can be purchased online and are $10 for UNBC and CNC Students with valid ID, and $15 dollars for non-students.
The musical opens on March 8 at Theatre North West (556 North Nechako Road) at 7 p.m., with further shows on March, 9, 10, 15, 16 and 17.
