A live stage musical showing of the Wizard of Oz is coming to Prince George, and the role of the munchkins will be performed by 12 local youth.

Members of the Judy Russell's Enchainement Dance Centre will take the stage while the show is in Prince George, an opportunity that will provide the centre with real-life touring theatre experience.

Those selected to perform this Sunday night include Emma Forgeron, Taylor Stafford, Hannah Wilson, Mckenna Thiffault, Melissa Flaterud, Kste McGowan, Sara McGowan, Steven Buchanan, Lauren Fisher, Meaghan Galloway, Kieran Yip and Aiden Yip.

The youth will get to discover what it's like to be part of a professional company, learn choreography by Leigh Constantine and be outfitted in the costume designs of Tim McQuillen-Wright.

The CN Centre hosts the only showing of the musical north of the Lower Mainland Sunday, Dec. 12. The greatest family musical of all time is based on the Royal Shakespeare Company's celebration of the iconic 1939 MGM film, presented with breathtaking special effects that will sweep audiences away, from the moment the tornado twists its way into Kansas.

Following the adventures of Dorothy, Toto and their friends Scarecrow, Tin Man and Cowardly Lion, the lavish production features dazzling choreography, wonderful costumes and of course some of the most memorable music of our time.

Director Nigel West utilizes the glamour and elegance of art deco Hollywood as the visually stunning technicolour backdrop for the Wizard of Oz. Dorothy and Toto are transported "Over the Rainbow" to find adventures with her friends in Munchkin Land, the Haunted Forest and Emerald City.

Featuring classic songs by Harold Arlen and E. Y. Harburg, such as Over the Rainbow, Ding Dong the Witch is Dead and Merry Old Land of Oz, and beloved characters, The Wizard of Oz will have the entire family captivated as they travel down the yellow brick road for an unforgettable evening at the theatre.

Tickets, at $37 each, are available at all Ticketmaster outlets.
