O'Dine second in small final in Turkey

Meryeta O’Dine’s string of top-10 success on the World Cup snowboard cross tour continued Saturday on the slopes in Ezurum, Turley. The 20-year-old from Prince George finished second the women’s small final and sixth overall in the 32-athlete event.

Meryeta O’Dine’s string of top-10 success on the World Cup snowboard cross tour continued Saturday on the slopes in Ezurum, Turley.

The 20-year-old from Prince George finished second the women’s small final and sixth overall in the 32-athlete event.

O’Dine won her first qualifying heat, finished second in second qualifying round and was third in the semifinals, finishing just behind Chloe Trespeuch of France and Eva Samkova of the Czech Republic, who went on to claim silver and gold respectively in the big final. Michela Moioli of Italy won the bronze medal.

In the men’s race, Kevin Hill was the top Canadian, finishing 26th pout of 60 starters. Omar Visintin of France won gold, Pierre Vaultier of France took silver and Allessandro Haemmerle of Austria was the bronze medalist.

The team events are scheduled for today. O’Dine will be paired with Zoe Bergermann of Erin, Ont., representing Canada in one semifinal heat, racing two teams from France and one from Germany. The United States, Czech Republic, Italy and Switzerland are in the other semifinal.

The last time O’Dine and Bergermann competed in a team event, Dec. 17 in Montafon, Austria, they won the silver medal.O'Dine is eighth in the world standings with 2,100 points while Bergermann is 12th with 1,210.
