There were 1,850 people in Prince George collecting Employment Insurance in October, according to the most-recent numbers from Statistics Canada.
The total represented an increase over the 1,390 seen during the same month the year before and matched a rising trend in the unemployment rate, from 4.9 per cent in October 2014 to 6.6 per cent in October 2015.
In October 2015, there were 20,500 people of working age not participating in the workforce, up from 17,100 the year previously.
