A Prince George man, known to police as a gang member, was bitten by a police dog when he fled as police attempted to arrest him as a participant in a downtown fight Sunday morning.

Police had dispersed a group fighting at Third Avenue and Quebec Street, and had arrested one belligerent participant who was placed in police cells for causing a disturbance.

Other RCMP members on patrol located the gang member, believed to be a participant in the fight, and when he resisted arrest and fled, a foot chase through the CN Rail yard ensued.

The man was arrested, with the help of police dog services, near Fourth Avenue and Edmonton Street.

The 29-year-old suspect received treatment for bite wounds at University Hospital and is under arrest with charges related to the disturbance, escaping lawful custody, resisting arrest and an outstanding warrant for assault causing bodily harm.

Police send along thanks to CN which had to suspend operations in the area for about an hour for safety of police and the subject being pursued.
