B.C. has now surpassed 2,000 confirmed COVID-19 cases with 55 new ones.

The grand total is 2,053 as reported today (April 28) by Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and Minister of Health Adrian Dix on the latest provincial pandemic details at a briefing this afternoon.

Northern Health has a new total of 45 test-positive cases, with two new ones coming within the last 24 hours.

Henry says the death toll has risen to 105 in the province with two additional passings since yesterday (April 27).

There are also 94 people hospitalized by COVID-19, three of them in northern B.C., and there are 1,231 recoveries.

Northern Health adds B.C.'s COVID-19 testing strategy has expanded to those experience mild symptoms of cold, influenza or the virus itself.

Symptoms include:

  • Fever
  • Chills
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath
  • Sore throat
  • Painful swallowing
  • Stuffy or runny nose
  • Loss of sense of smell
  • Headache
  • Muscle aches
  • Fatigue
  • Loss of appetite

"If a person tests positive, they will be contacted by public health officials," read a Northern Health release.

"Anyone seeking COVID-19 testing should be self-isolating until they receive a negative test result. Most results are available within 24-48 hours of the test."

The authority says testing can be done through your primary care provider, walk-in clinic, the urgent primary care centre or a community collection centre.

Residents are encouraged to contact their physician or nurse practitioner’s office, or to call the NH COVID-19 Online Clinic at 1-844-645-7811 to arrange for a test.
