Northern Health reports two more COVID-19 deaths over weekend

Over a three-day period, there were 346 new cases of COVID-19 reported in Northern Health and there are now 965 active cases in the region.

In the last 72 hours there have also been 10 new deaths in B.C. including two deaths in Northern Health.

There have been 176 deaths confirmed in the Northern Health region since the pandemic began.  

The province is also reporting 1,986 new cases over the weekend and 5,986 active cases in the province.  Of the active cases 326 individuals are in hospital and 142 are in intensive care.

The remaining people are recovering at home in self-isolation.

The BC Centre for Disease Control is reporting 79 people currently hospitalized and 18 in critical care in Northern Health.

There are also 20 active health-care facility outbreaks in the province including at the University Hospital of Northern B.C. and Jubilee Lodge in Prince George.

However, Northern Health confirmed today (Oct. 4) there are not currently any active cases in the 66-bed facility.

The outbreak was first declared on Sept. 5 and has since claimed six lives. An earlier COVID-19 outbreak at Jubilee Lodge from December 2020 to February 2021 claimed the lives of 17 residents.

The province is reporting that from Sept. 24 to 30 people not fully vaccinated accounted for 71.5 per cent of cases and from Sept. 17-30, they accounted for 81.4 per cent of hospitalizations.

As of Monday, Oct. 4 88.2 per cent or 4,089,226 of eligible people 12 and older in B.C. have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine and 81.6 per cent or 3,782,008 have received their second dose.

In addition, 88.7 per cent or 3,837,024 of all eligible adults in B.C. have received their first dose and 82.3 per cent or 3,561,693 received their second dose.
