Northern Health is warning residents to use caution when confronted with people using its name.
The health authority said they have been informed of door-to-door air quality surveys being conducted by someone claiming to be a Northern Health employee. The person comes back a short time later and requests access to the person's house and produces some form of identification saying they are with Northern Health.
"At this time, our program areas are not conducting door-to-door surveys and do not normally undertake this type of work," said a statement from Northern Health, adding that its outreach is usually at community events and if a home visit is made, it is with a pre-scheduled appointment.
There is also an Internet and phone scam posing as a Northern Health employee recruitment, said the health authority. "We do not hire or accept any applications through social media sites, by phone, or by text," Northern Health said. The only place to apply for a job with Northern Health is through its ExpectMore website and it doesn't collect any personal information, including banking details, by phone or text.
Anyone who thinks they have been contacted by someone impersonating a Northern Health employee is asked to report the incident by calling 1-877-905-1155 and to contact the RCMP or the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre if they feel their personal information has been compromised.
