Dragon-spotters will be out in full force in West Lake provincial park on Sunday, Aug. 26.
There's no truth to the rumour Ogopogo has made its way north to the Prince George region, but the 22 members of the Northbreast Passage dragon boat team will be action that day for the Meet the Dragon public demonstration of their paddling skills.
"We'll put the [dragon] head and the tail on our boat that day because many people never see that," said Enid Bond, captain of the Northbreast Passage team.
"We'll paddle over from where we're docked at West Lake to the park and we'll let people know what we're about. We've got some pink pens and notepads we'll be giving away, and we'll have a draw for two adults to come into the boat with us in a short race."
The Northbreast team is preparing for the provincial dragon boat festival, set for Sept. 8-9 in Penticton at Skaha Lake, on the opposite side of the city from Ogopogo's legendary home in Okanagan Lake. Last year at the event in Victoria, the Prince George team captured the breast cancer challenge title.
Including the sterner and the drummer, all 22 paddlers must be breast cancer survivors, a requirement for joining the team.
"It's tough thing you have to have to get in the boat, but it's a wonderful thing to do," said Bond.
The public event starts at 2 p.m. on Aug. 26.
