A walk will be held in Prince George as part of International Peace Day.
Set for Sunday, it starts at 11 a.m. at the Prince George Civic Centre, ends about an hour later at city hall, and organizers are hoping to draw at least 50 people to what is expected to become an annual event.
"But more importantly, I want people to acknowledge this day of non-violence and cease-fire in their own personal way," organizer Tracey Matters said. "Smile and say hi to a new face, do a yoga class, sit in stillness, visit someone who lives alone."
Matters is the sister of Greg Matters, the Canadian military veteran who was killed by a member of an RCMP emergency response team during a standoff in September 2012 at the family's Pineview property.
"Our ultimate goal is that no one dies today," said Multicultural Heritage Society president Shawn Bellamy. "On September 21st, no one will be hurt or killed as a result of bullying, domestic violence, police force, and the like."
"There are peaceful ways to stand up for justice and the rights of peoples - this is our small way of doing and being part of something big."
"Everyone is invited to come along on Sunday and that includes the young and old and especially people from diverse cultural backgrounds."
