There have been 13 new cases of COVID-19 in B.C. during the past day Minister of Health Adrian Dix and Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry announced this afternoon (July 3).

In a written statement, officials announced there have been 2,947 test-confirmed cases since the pandemic hit the west coast.

In Northern Health, there are no new cases for the 24th consecutive day and a total of 65. The last time the authority recorded a case was on June 9.

Of the number of provincial cases, there are 162 active, which also includes 19 people being treated in hospital and two in intensive care. A total of 2,608 people have fully recovered from the virus.

Dr. Henry announced there have been no new deaths which keeps the provincial total at 177.

There have been 995 test-confirmed cases in Vancouver Coastal Health, 1,553 in Fraser Health, 132 on Vancouver Island and 202 in the Interior Health region.

"Six cases previously reported have removed from the total, as they were identified as residents of another province and will be reported in their home province," Henry said. "This change is consistent with regular protocol."

There have been no new health-care facility outbreaks in B.C. Henry also announced the outbreak at Langley Lodge has now been declared over. Three long-term care or assisted-living facilities and one acute-care facility have outbreaks.

There are no active community outbreaks.

“We encourage British Columbians to show compassion and care to those around us," the written statement says. "This is our opportunity to demonstrate how we can all stay safe this summer. Following our rules for safe social interactions by keeping a safe physical distance from others, wearing a mask when maintaining distance is a challenge, keeping on top of hand hygiene and always staying home if you are sick will help protect all of us."

“Whether you live in B.C., are a visitor from another province or are in Canada for essential travel, we all have to do our part to protect our communities, our Elders and our loved ones."
