B.C. now has a total of 3,834 recorded COVID-19 cases after the latest update from Dr. Bonnie Henry and Minister of Health Adrian Dix this afternoon (Aug 5).

In a written statement, officials announced 47 cases have been discovered in the past day. Yesterday (Aug. 4), Henry said there had been 146 new cases over a four day reporting period.

Northern Health has no new cases keeping the total at 91. An outbreak was declared by the authority on Haida Gwaii on July 24 and the number of cases there have since climbed to 24, to which, as of Tuesday (Aug. 4), only 10 were listed as active.

There no new deaths from the virus in the past day for a total of 195 while a total of 3,288 have recovered. There are 351 active cases in B.C. with nine hospitalized and six in intensive care.

There have been no new health-care facility outbreaks. In total, three long-term care or assisted living facilities have active outbreaks.

Henry added there are no new community outbreaks, but there continues to be community exposure events throughout the province and on flights into and out of British Columbia.

“As COVID-19 remains in our communities, so does the anxiety and stress that comes with the uncertainty, the increased isolation and the need to take precautions in everything we do," Henry said in the statement.

"Younger people, in particular, may not fully understand why many of the activities they normally enjoy are no longer available, look different and require us to interact with each other in new ways.

“We remind people to take the time to check in with your friends, family and neighbours, young and old, to provide a mental health boost and to ensure they have the support we all need – especially for those who may be self-isolating."

There have been 1,132 recorded cases in Vancouver Coastal Health, 2,015 in Fraser Health, 146 in the Island Health Authority and 384 in the Interior Health region.

“People all across B.C. have demonstrated unparalleled compassion and kindness in the face of COVID-19. It is something we can all be proud of and something we must continue."
