With the necessary stamp of approval to add a patio to the downtown property, Lambda Cabaret owner Linda Allen is hoping to renovate the entire venue.
A public hearing is scheduled for tonight's city council meeting on a liquor licence application to increase occupancy at the 1177 Third Ave. nightclub from 100 to 190 seats.
The extra spots would come from renovating the building's main floor to add space for another 70 people as well as another 20 from the proposed new patio.
During the Nov. 3 meeting, council approved a change to the zoning bylaw to permit outdoor use for liquor primary establishments in the C1: Downtown zone and to cap patio occupancy at 20 people.
The proposed patio would have an 1.8 metre-high wooden fence on top of a 1.2-metre high concrete wall, an emergency gate and be monitored via a security camera.
According to a staff report, Allen has used the top floor as a 100-seat cabaret since October 2011 - with no complaints filed with the city bylaw department. The main floor has been vacant since February.
Staff are recommending council's approval of the application given the lack of bylaw complaints and that since Lambda Cabaret operates outside of standard business hours traffic and parking levels won't be an issue.
