Even during a pandemic, Prince George can’t resist that daily cup of Tim Hortons joe.

Those caffeine cravings from last Wednesday (Aug. 12) proved effective as residents helped surpass last year’s Camp Day fundraising efforts to reach a new city-wide record of more than $42,000.

Wende Bracklow, one of a few local Tim Hortons owners, tells PrinceGeorgeMatters they set the record with 10 of they’re 11 restaurants as the UNBC location is currently closed.

“I’m really impressed,” she says, “but also not that surprised at how it went this year because we live in such a generous city.”

All proceeds from hot or iced coffee purchases that day go towards sending kids to Tim Hortons Foundation Camps across Canada, a decades-old that has helped nearly 300,000 youth aged 12 to 16 years old.

However, due to COVID-19, camps this year are virtual.

The eight-week eCamp started at the beginning of July, and has grouped participating campers into eCabins, supported by trained eCounsellors to build social, emotional and development skills.

Customers who also rounded up their order total or paid $2 extra for Camp Day bracelet also contributed to the cause.
