The annual summer fair, formerly the Prince George Exhibition, is now called the British Columbia Northern Exhibition and with the new name for the expo comes the announcement of Angela Cunningham as the new general manager.

Former expo manager Terri McConnachie is now general manager for the Northern B.C. branch of the Canadian Home Builders Association.

The fair has been a five-day event for the last few years and will be four days long this year going from Aug. 8 to 11.

Cunningham, who has five years experience in business administration, has spent most of her life in Prince George and now resides in Salmon Valley.

She grew up on a traditional farm where she would have to get up early, and feed and care for the animals before hopping on the school bus each day.

"That lifestyle continued into my adult life, having horses and raising chickens and I still love to have farm-raised meat and produce and those are the things that I believe in and still do to this day," said Cunningham.

This year's BCNE has a new website at www.bcne.ca and Cunningham invites everyone to visit the website frequently for new information about the fair.

"We were always the biggest regional fair, but our name didn't reflect that," said Cunningham.

The highlights of the fair include the midway, the Saturday night western dance called the Stetson Stomp, heavy horse pulls, Dan the one-man band and other strolling entertainment will be on hand.

The community stage welcomes locals who will showcase their talent, a strong presence of the 4H, the historical Heritage Lane and the standard big display of home arts and horticulture that are all part of the tradition that is the community fair.
