At least 25 firefighters and other community volunteers will be spending today building a deck on retired fire chief Herald Lawrence's home in Hixon.
The chief is a C4 quadriplegic after he was in a motor vehicle accident about a year ago, leaving him immobile from the shoulders down.
In order for Lawrence to enjoy his outdoor time with family and friends, he needs to be sheltered and that's where the deck will play an important role in improving the quality of his life.
The firefighter community is a close one, and in that spirit, volunteers will gather to build the deck with lumber donated by Dunkley Lumber.
