53 people braved the -15 C temperature to jump into the water at last year's Polar Bear Dip at Ness Lake Bible Camp.

Ness Lake Bible Camp's 16th annual Polar Bear Dip is set for New Year's Day.

The camp's top fundraiser for the year, it traditionally draws more than 50 dippers and a throng of spectators and generated $4,000 last year.

"Money raised from this event will go towards the camper sponsorship fund which makes camp possible for families who would otherwise not be able to afford it," organizers said in a press release.

"Every kid deserves to go to camp and we have always strived to make camp accessible for all.

"One way we do that is by paying for part of the fees for families that are not financially in a place to afford to send their kids."

The entry fee is $20, but it's waived for anyone who raises at least $20 in pledges.

The top fundraiser wins a one-night stay for two at Esther's Inn and IRL will match each entry fee up to $2,000 as a donation to the camp.

And the first 40 participants get a T-shirt.

Pledge sheets and waiver forms, as well as a "donate now" button, are found at www.nlbc.bc.ca.

Check in is at 2 p.m. in the camp's welcome centre (log building in parking lot). At 2:30 p.m. participants will meet in the camp's gym to judge costumes and talk about safety when dipping.
