A Kelowna boy will never forget his 14th birthday party – but for all the wrong reasons.
The teen was tossing around a Frisbee with friends at Cameron Park Thursday evening when he stepped on a needle, which pierced his foot.
"He was yelling at me, 'dad, dad, I'm going to throw it to you,' the boys father, who wished to remain anonymous, told Castanet News.
"I got distracted by something, and he kept yelling, and I thought he just wanted to throw to me. But, he said, 'I stepped on a needle.'"
They took the needle with them to the hospital.
At the hospital, he said they gave his son a tetanus shot, soaked his foot and took blood tests.
Dad says his son is OK now, "but you never know.... It was disturbing, really."
In terms of advice, all he could say was make sure your kids are wearing shoes.
As for the rash of needle finds in the city: "It's pretty discouraging. It just feels like these people have all the rights, and if you're a normal, good person, you have nothing."
