The opening goal at the Cougars' annual Teddy Bear Toss game unleashed a flurry to the tune of 5,973 pieces, the Salvation Army said Wednesday.

Broken down, 3,896 were teddy bears, 828 were hats, 691 were gloves or mitts, 478 were socks, 32 were clothing and 25 were blankets.

"These items will be distributed to people in need in our community," Salvation Army business manager Bill Glasgow said in a statement. "The Salvation Army would like to send a deep thank you to all the game attendees who brought donations.

"The stuffed animals will put smiles on kids' faces this Christmas, and the warm weather gear will be deeply appreciated by those suffering in the cold."

Josh Curtis was the teddy bear goal score in a wild 6-4 Cougars' win over the Seattle Thunderbirds.
