B.C.'s first COVID-19 vaccine dose is set to be given tomorrow (Dec. 15), and the data today (Dec. 14) revealed once again the urge to stay vigilant in the mean time.

Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry reported 49 more people that died from the virus since Friday (Dec. 11), three of which were in Northern Health, and 2,146 new infections across the province since Friday (Dec. 11) for a new grand total of 42,943 since January.

This includes 91 cases in our region, which has now eclipsed 1,300 in total since March to 1,331.

B.C.'s death toll now sits at 647, 12 of whom were in the north.

There are 398 active cases in Northern Health, 18 people in critical care among 46 total hospitalizations, and 921 recoveries.

Forty of those hospitalizations are admitted into University Hospital of Northern BC (UHNBC), while the rest are either in Terrace or Fort St. John.

Earlier today, Northern Health confirmed that three people, one staff and two residents, had tested positive for COVID-19 at Jubilee Lodge, declaring an outbreak at the Prince George long-term care facility.

It's the first place in the city with a full outbreak as precautionaries are in effect for UHNBC's Family Medicine Unit and the Special Care Unit in the East Wing of the Gateway Lodge.

The province's latest three-day period case counts are as follows:

  • 698 = Friday to Saturday
  • 689 = Saturday to Sunday
  • 759 = Sunday to Monday

Among the 10,039 active cases in B.C., there are 87 people in critical care out of 359 total hospitalizations

There are 11,177 people being actively monitored for COVID-19 after coming in contact with someone who tested positive for the virus, while 31,207 have recovered.

Today, BC Emergency Health Services (BCEHS) announced its Major Incident Rapid Response Team was staying in Fort St. James for another four-day term with new crew members on the ground supporting local paramedics.

Since the start of December, there have been 100 medical emergency calls related to COVID-19 in the district and Nak'azdli Whut'en areas, BCEHS spokesperson Shannon Miller confirmed to PrinceGeorgeMatters.

She adds, of those calls, 45 were medical emergency calls related to COVID-19 and 56 were patient transfers since Dec. 1.

The unit was initially launched last Wednesday (Dec. 9) in response to, what was confirmed at the time, 40 COVID-19 cases within the district's region.

This included the Nak'azdli Whut'en First Nation, who have closed their community for two weeks as of Dec. 4 in an effort to prevent further spread of the virus.

St. Mary's Catholic School in Prince George was also warned of a second COVID-19 exposure event.

Northern Health is notifying the independent institution's community that students and staff may have come into contact with someone who tested positive for the virus Dec. 3 and 4 in addition to an initial exposure reported Dec. 1 and 2.
