Prince George's Jubilee Lodge long-term care home under COVID-19 outbreak

Staff, residents tested positive for the virus this past weekend

At least three people inside a Prince George long-term care home adjacent to University Hospital of Northern BC (UHNBC) has tested positive for COVID-19, leading to an outbreak declaration.

Northern Health says one Jubilee Lodge staff member and two residents have been infected with the virus as of Saturday (Dec. 12).

"NH care facilities have implemented very clear policies and procedures for COVID-19 infection prevention and control, to lower the risk of transmission to residents, staff and physicians in a health care facility," the authority says in a statement this morning (Dec. 14).

Public health officials and workers are testing Jubilee Lodge residents to identify anyone else that's possibly been infected.

Additional steps being taken at the facility includes:

  • Increased screening for all staff and residents
  • Cleaning and infection control measures have been enhanced
  • Staff and resident movement in the facility has been restricted
  • Temporary suspension of social visits (essential visits are not impacted, and can continue)

Jubilee Lodge is currently the only full outbreak at a facility in Prince George.

'Precautionary' outbreaks are in place for UHNBC's Family Medicine Unit and the Special Care Unit in the East Wing of the Gateway Lodge.

As of this publication, there have been 1,240 COVID-19 cases found in northern B.C. since the pandemic reached the region in March.

Among those include 421 active cases, 17 in critical care out of 46 total hospitalizations, nine deaths and 810 recoveries.
