Embattled NDP opposition leader Carole James announced just after lunch she is stepping down.
She said she'll be stepping down pending the election of an interim leader, a decision that will be made in the New Year.
"This hasn't been an easy decision, as I'm sure you can imagine. But it's been a decision that I've made in the best interests of the party," said James in a prepared statement.
"Most importantly, it's been made in the best interests of British Columbians, who expect and deserve a functioning Opposition," she said.
James has faced open questioning of her leadership by a dozen or more of her caucus.
