Prince George resident Sussanne Skidmore Hewlett has secured a nomination for the coming provincial election.

The community organizer will face off in May against incumbent B.C. Liberal MLA John Rustad as the New Democrat opponent in Nechako Lakes.

"Sussanne is a strong candidate and I'm proud to have her on our team," said BC NDP leader Adrian Dix. "I know she'll be a vocal advocate for Northerners who want the positive change that the BC NDP are offering."

Skidmore Hewlett - currently serving as president of the Nechako Lakes constituency - beat out former Prince George city councillor Debora Munoz to clinch the nomination. The field educator with the Court Services branch of the Ministry of Justice also serves as second vice-president of the BC Government and Service Employees Union local representing administrative workers.

"I'm excited to be part of Adrian's team, working to change northern B.C. for the better," said Skidmore Hewlett." Northerners face a huge number of challenges and New Democrats are committed to bringing positive change to our communities."

Though she currently resides in the city Skidmore Hewlett, 38, has said she will move to the riding - where she already has recreational property - if elected as an MLA.
