Fortis's natural gas customers in Prince George will see a drop in their bills starting in April.
The B.C. Utilities Commission has approved a new rate schedule that will see a 9.9-per-cent decrease, amounting to $98 per year for the average homeowner.
The reduction is due to a 25-per-cent drop in the commodity portion, which Fortis spokesperson Neal Pobron attributed to reduced demand due to the mild winter and a growing supply of natural gas.
"They have some of the lowest delivered natural gas prices in about a decade," Pobron said.
Fortis' effort to roll all six of their provincial regions and three provincially-mandated rate structures into one remains ongoing and subject to BCUC approval.
If approved, the average Prince George household will see a $3-per-month increase, phased in over two years although there will be a slight drop at the outset, Pobran said, because of the way it will be introduced.
