Dozens of Prince George residents and fitness junkies dedicated themselves in working out to the maximum for four hours on Saturday morning (March 7) to support the kids.

The YMCA of Northern BC raised more than $10,000 from its fifth annual MEGATHON, bringing the 2020 Strong Kids fundraising total to over $30,000, and have unveiled its donor wall in recognition of those who committed the campaign.

According to the organization, one in five children and youth can’t afford or come up with the funds to attend summer camps and programs.

“We greatly appreciate the support of our community toward the campaign’s success thus far,” said Prince George YMCA Philanthropy Coordinator Lauren Marutt in a release.

“At the YMCA, we believe that no one should be turned away from camps or programs due to inability to pay. That’s why we fundraise all year round- so we can support children and families to live healthy, happy lives.”

Strong Kids’ goal this year is $60,000 by the end of August and more fundraisers are on the way, Marutt says.

“It’s important to know that the YMCA is a charity dedicated to strengthening our community. The funds raised in this campaign stay in Prince George and the north and directly impact the lives of local children and youth. We rely on the support of our donors throughout the year and encourage members of the community to join us in this meaningful work.”

Other donations for the YMCA’s campaign each year also come from every member of the board of directors as well as staff members via payroll deductions and personal donations.
