A new Tribal Chief of the Carrier Sekani Tribal Council has been elected.
Mia Holmes defeated candidates Mary Teegee and Kathaleigh George in the March 21 election.
On her campaign Facebook page, Holmes thanked everyone for their support and prayers during the campaign period, while also acknowledging the women she ran against.
"Thank you, everyone, for your support and prayers," she says. "I look forward to working closely with all community members and I believe the strength of our collective communities as we forge forward in a future of possibilities and opportunities. I would like to acknowledge the hard work of Kathaleigh George and Mary Teegee of Takla Nation. It has been an honor to be part a this historic election in CSTC history. You are both amazing women I forward to working with moving forward."
Holmes will now take over from former Tribal Chief Terry Teegee.
"Mussi cho to all the people for participating in this historic election," Holmes adds. "We know we are collectively prepared to move forward in a good way."
