Medical facility contract awarded

Western Industrial Contractors of Prince George has won the contract to build the new learning and development centre at the University Hospital of Northern B.C.

Western Industrial Contractors of Prince George has won the contract to build the new learning and development centre at the University Hospital of Northern B.C.

The nearly $10 million facility will provide space for a lecture hall and library on site for the use of Northern Medical Program students and other healthcare professionals. It will also include a simulation lab where students can practice emergency and other clinical situations using high-tech mannequins.

The 1,365-square-metre building will also have video conferencing capabilities for students and other medical staff to access educational programing.

Construction is expected to begin by the end of the month and the building is slated to be in operation by early 2015.

Western Industrial Contractors has also worked on other major projects in Prince George, including Gateway Complex Care and Assisted Living, Duchess Park Secondary School, and the Charles Jago Northern Sports Centre at UNBC.
