A Prince George professor has been reappointed to the Forest Practices Board for another two years.

Dr. William McGill, a professor of ecosystem science and management at the University of

Northern B.C., was also appointed the board's vice-chair, with the new term starting Dec. 31.

McGill has served one two-year term.

Timothy Ryan, chief forester and director of woodlands operations with Vancouver's Ledcor Resources and Transportation, was named the new Forest Practices Board chair.

He takes over from Al Gorley, a long-time Prince George forester and Houston resident, who held the position since March 2010.

Forest, Lands and Natural Resource Operations Minister Steve Thomson announced the appointments Friday.

Another Prince George resident, Mike Nash, is a board member. Registered professional foresters Bill Dumont, of Cobble Hill, Andrea Lyall, of West Vancouver and Dave Patterson, of North Vancouver, make up the rest of the board.

The Forest Practices Board is B.C.'s independent watchdog for sound forest and range practices, reporting its findings and recommendations directly to the public and government.
