A lantern-making workshop will be held at the PG Farmers' Market Annex on Saturday afternoon in preparation for a "solstice soiree" 11 days later.

Balloon, popsicle stick or wire frame methods will be available to try making paper lanterns with help from Carol Vadnais, Barb Pethick, Elaine Kerr and Jovanka Djordjevich.

Bring your ideas and if you have items that you may want to incorporate into your lantern such as fern fronds, leaves, stickers, or some special papers, bring them along too.

Cost is $2.50 per person or $5 per family to help pay for the materials and space.

The solstice soiree is set for Wed., Dec. 21 at the courthouse plaza, 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. where there will be a lantern festival, as well as family entertainment and winter activities, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., and an "embrace winter" fashion show, starting at 7 p.m.
